Release, Waiver & Indemnification

This retreat is organized and operated by volunteers from DRBA and DRBU.
Please read both sections carefully before signing.

Part 1 — Release, Waiver, and Indemnification Agreement

This retreat is organized and operated by volunteers from the Dharma Realm Buddhist Association (DRBA) and Dharma Realm Buddhist University (DRBU). To maintain the integrity and goodwill of our volunteers and safeguard our Dharma community against potential legal actions, we kindly request that you review and endorse this agreement of release, waiver, and indemnification.

As a prerequisite for being permitted to participate in the Buddha Root Farm Retreat (hereinafter referred to as the "Event"), I do hereby acknowledge and agree to the following:

Nature of the Event

I understand that the Event includes significant travel by road in vehicles operated by either professional drivers or volunteer drivers, and includes residing at Buddha Root Farm for the duration of one and/or two weeks.

Recognition of Potential Risks

I acknowledge that by participating in the Event, I may be exposed to risks that could result in serious bodily injury (including but not limited to permanent disability, paralysis, and death), loss of income, property damage, and other consequential losses. These potential risks and damages are referred to herein as the "Event Risks and Damages."

Acceptance of Risks

I willingly accept and assume all risks and liabilities associated with my participation in the Event, including, without limitation, the Event Risks and Damages. I accept full responsibility for all injuries, losses, expenses, and damages I incurred due to my participation. I understand that there may be risks and damages currently unknown or unforeseeable. This agreement constitutes a full release and waiver of all potential risks and damages, whether known, unknown, or unforeseeable.

Release of Liability

I hereby release, discharge, and waive any claims against the following "Released Parties" arising from or related to the Event, including claims for any injuries, losses, expenses, or damages caused in whole or in part by the negligence of the Released Parties or otherwise:

Binding Agreement and Indemnity

I acknowledge that this agreement binds me, my spouse, children, heirs, successors, assigns, and legal representatives, and I agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Released Parties from any claims, actions, costs, or damages brought by any of the aforementioned parties, or on my behalf.

Medical Emergency

In the event of a medical emergency, I authorize and consent to any x-ray examination, anesthetic, medical, surgical or dental diagnosis, or treatment and hospital service that may be rendered to me under the general or special supervision of any licensed physician or dentist.

I acknowledge that I have read this agreement, fully understand its terms, realize that I am forfeiting substantial rights by signing it, and do so voluntarily and without any coercion, inducement, or assurance of any nature. I intend this to be a comprehensive and unconditional release and waiver of all liability to the maximum extent allowed by law. Participants under the age of 18 will need this waiver endorsed by a parent and/or legal guardian.

Part 2 — Consent for Emergency Medical Treatment

In the event of illness, injury, or emergency, I am 18 years or older and hereby authorize the retreat organizers of Buddha Root Farm Retreat, for the duration of my participation in the retreat from June 21 – June 27, 2026 (work week), and/or June 27 – July 7, 2026, to consent to any examination, x-ray, anesthetic, medical, or surgical diagnosis or treatment and hospital care which is rendered under supervision of any physician or surgeon licensed under the provisions of the Medical Practice Act or the medical staff of a licensed hospital, whether such diagnosis or treatment is rendered at the office of said physician or at said hospital.

Further, I hereby expressly consent that I may receive emergency medical treatment from any physician, hospital, or other medical center, and I do further agree to hold blameless any physician or any adult worker of Buddha Root Farm Retreat and Dharma Realm Buddhist Association for rendering services.

I do release, acquit, discharge, and covenant to hold harmless the staff of Buddha Root Farm Retreat and Dharma Realm Buddhist Association from any and all actions, damages, and liabilities arising out of the treatment of any sickness or accident incurred by me during the Buddha Root Farm Retreat.
